Colin Kaepernick, Patrick Peterson Trade Jerseys

Posted Dec 30, 2013

Colin Kaepernick and Patrick Peterson exchanged jerseys after San Francisco's Week 17 win in Arizona.

It’s not the first, nor will it be the last time Colin Kaepernick trades a jersey with an opponent.

The trend of NFL players swapping jerseys with an opponent after the game is just getting started.

Smith and Miller Exchange Jerseys

Following Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals, Kaepernick and cornerback Patrick Peterson took off their shoulder pads, exchanged jerseys and even signed them with a Sharpie. Kaepernick swapped uniforms with former teammate and friend Ricardo Lockette after a Week 15 win at Candlestick Park.

With Peterson, Kaepernick wanted to show a sign of respect to one of the best defensive backs in the NFL.

“He’s a great player,” Kaepernick said of Arizona’s Pro Bowl cornerback. “Played against him a couple times now and we came out the same year, so we had a few memories together.”

Kaepernick created a few memories of his own in his first full season as a starting quarterback.

The third-year pro became the 12th player in NFL history to throw for more than 3,000 yards and rush for more than 500 yards in the same season.

Kaepernick also became the first 49ers quarterback to complete 20 touchdown passes in a season since Jeff Garcia’s 21 touchdowns in 2002.

Kaepernick finished the year with 3,197 passing yards, 21 touchdown passes, 524 rushing yards, four rushing scores and a quarterback rating of 91.6.

In the eyes of Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers signal-caller consistently improved.

“I think he continues to do that,” Harbaugh said on Monday.

“I’ve said that before. He’s played extremely well, been durable, been there for every snap. (He) makes the throws when the throws need to be made. He did that again on Sunday.”

Kaepernick's 29-yard pass to Quinton Patton helped set up Phil Dawson's 40-yard game-winning field goal.

With the win, Kaepernick finished 12-4 in his first season as a starter.

It's only right to assume more players will wants his jersey in the future.
