Wide receivers and quarterbacks are taking turns in the NFL's annual money-making track meet.
We'll have notes from defensive backs before we head back to the Bay Area, but for now, here's what we're hearing on day 4 of the NFL Scouting Combine.
Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks had the media room buzzing with an unofficial 4.3, 40-yard dash.
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel ran an unofficial, 4.56.
Here’s how Manziel’s unofficial time compared to 49ers quarterback
*This story has been corrected to reflect Kaepernick's 40-yard dash time. It and the NFL's Tweet below misstated the time.
Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert is a "solid" football player. That's why he feels like he'll be the No. 1 cornerback in the draft. "My game is solid," the 6-foot, 202-pound cornerback said. Gilbert expects to run in the 4.3s this week. He also feels like he can do more than just play on defense. "I think I'm a dangerous return man," Gilbert said. "If I get my hands on the ball for an interception, I'm going to try and take it to the house." Perhaps the best part of Gilbert's media session was when the OK St. cornerback explained his relationship with fellow top prospect, Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard. Apparently the two had a great time at the NCAA college footbal awards. There, Dennard gave Gilbert a hard time about his penchant for taking "selfies."
49ers.com has a flight to catch, we'll follow up with more combine coverage next week. But first, enjoy our day 4 podcast.
