Masulit of Woodside is Week 4 HS Player of Week

Posted Oct 7, 2011

The 49ers High School Player of the Week Award for week four goes to Christian Masulit from Woodside High School.

Woodside High has a special talent in senior running back Christian Masulit. After finishing last season with only one win, Masulit and his teammates have redefined themselves and have jumped out to a 3-0-1 start.

“It was tough last year, knowing we were better that that,” said Masulit. “This year feels different, we connect better on the field, more of a family, more of a team”.

Masulit carried the ball 19 times for 188 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 41-27 win over Carlmont-Belmont. He credits his success to a much-improved offensive line and key blocks from senior running back Gino Cocrum.

The end zone has become a familiar place for Masulit with 10 touchdowns already on the young season. Lining up at the tailback position and in the slot has allowed Christian to get more touches that he has capitalized on, becoming the playmaker that the Wildcats have needed to win games.

When asked what type of a player Christian Masulit is, head coach Steve Nicolopulos replied, “he is very versatile, he can catch, he can throw, he can run – he can do it all.  His attitude is different this year. He wants to be successful and understands what it takes to get there.”

Christian’s versatility plays out in the classroom as well, carrying a 3.0 G.P.A.

With the leadership of Coach Nicolopulos and the example set on the field by senior quarterback Ricky Hoffer and senior running back Christian Masulit, the Woodside Wildcats have found a way to win. The intensity to which they practice has carried over to their games and the team mentality and connection that Christian talks about is evident in their record.

As the home school of 49ers High School Player of the Week, Woodside High School will receive a $500 grant for their football program. Masulit will receive a 49ers hat and t-shirt, a certificate signed by 49er head coach Jim Harbaugh, two tickets to a 49ers home game and recognition on 49ers.com.  At the end of the season, Towns will be invited to the 49ers Training Facility in Santa Clara, CA to accept a trophy recognizing his achievements.
