Anquan Boldin Bests NFL Peers on Basketball Court

Posted Apr 11, 2014

San Francisco's veteran led his team to victory in a celebrity basketball game on Day 2 of his Q-Festival in Pahokee, Fla.

PAHOKEE, Fla. – He drained three-point shots. He dished to his teammates for alley-oops. And he proved victorious.

Yes, it was Anquan Boldin's own celebrity basketball game – and, yes, he had more than the benefit of doubt from his officiating crew – but the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver starred on Friday night, Day 2 of his 10th annual Q-Festival.

Playing before a filled gymnasium at his old stomping grounds, Pahokee Middle/High School, Boldin literally held court with a dozen other NFL players.

"Guys always look forward to this," Boldin said. "They think if they didn't make it to the NFL, they could have made it to the NBA."

Playing on the "Black team" and wearing his No. 81 jersey backwards, Boldin led a starting five comprising Baltimore Ravens return man Jacoby Jones and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown against a "Red" team led by Chicago Bears wideout Brandon Marshall.

When the night was done: Black 109, Red 67.

Jim Harbaugh, Boldin's 49ers coach, had expressed concerns with Boldin overdoing it on the hardwood. But at the end of the night, after he sweated through his jersey, Boldin came out of it healthy as ever.

"I know Anquan," Harbaugh said Thursday at Day 1 of Q-Fest. "I know how competitive he is. I imagine putting him in a basketball game, and it worries me. I'm going to intervene as much as possible to see if I can get him to hang out around the three-point line.

"Once they start playing basketball and competing, I can just see him with their game faces on, seeing them mix it up on the boards, that frightens me. I don't want 'em competing at that. It scares the dickens out of me."

Coach, no reason to be concerned.
