49ers Sign Gore to Three-Year Extension

Posted Aug 31, 2011

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed RB Frank Gore to a three-year contract extension through the 2014 season. The 49ers originally selected Gore in the third round (65th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.

“The collective goal all along was to allow Frank the unique opportunity to play his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers, and we are extremely pleased to have accomplished this,” said General Manager Trent Baalke. “We appreciate the diligent efforts of Drew and Jason Rosenhaus on Frank’s behalf, as they worked closely with Paraag Marathe to make this deal happen. Frank’s love for the Bay Area Community, play on the field and leadership within the locker room are equaled only by his passion for the game.”

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Gore (5-9, 217) has been one of the top running backs in the NFL since entering the league in 2005. He has played in 84 games (71 starts), registering 1,371 carries for 6,414 yards (4.7 avg.) and 35 touchdowns while adding 270 receptions for 2,283 yards and nine touchdowns. Gore is also a two-time recipient of the 49ers Bill Walsh Award given annually to the team MVP.

Gore’s 6,414 yards rushing rank third in franchise history and his 8,697 yards from scrimmage rank fourth. He is the only running back in franchise history to rush for over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons (2006-09). Gore also holds the franchise record for most 100-yard games (24) and 200-yard games (two). He has led the 49ers in rushing every year since 2005, and in 2006, he led the NFC with 1,695 rushing yards.

Since 2005, Gore ranks third in the NFL with 8,697 yards from scrimmage. Over that span, he also ranks fourth in the NFL with 6,414 rushing yards and fourth among all running backs with 2,283 receiving yards. Gore’s 4.7 yards/carry also rank second in the NFL.

The 28-year-old native of Coral Gables, FL, starred collegiately at University of Miami, where he rushed for 1,975 yards, ranking seventh school history.
