The San Francisco 49ers signed a landmark radio broadcast agreement with 860 AM ESPN Deportes. The agreement runs through the 2018 season and will provide Spanish language 49ers programming on one of the strongest signals in the Bay Area. KTRB 860 AM is a 50,000 watt station that covers the entire Bay Area and reaches deep into Northern and Central California markets like Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto and as far south as Merced. KTRB offers ESPN Deportes programming, the only 24-hour national Spanish-language sports radio network.
Erwin Rolando Higueros, a 25-year veteran of Bay Area sports broadcasting, brings years of NFL broadcasting experience as he returns for his second season as the play-by-play announcer for the 49ers on 860AM ESPN Deportes Radio. Higueros plays a double role on the station as he is also the Spanish language announcer for the San Francisco Giants broadcasts. This year marks his 16th season being part of the Giants’ Spanish language radio booth. In addition to his broadcast responsibilities, Higueros is a member of the Giants front office, working in both the media relations and Hispanic marketing departments. Since 2009 he has also called the action in Spanish for Fresno State Football. Higueros began his broadcasting career with the Oakland A’s from 1988-97, and was the play-by-play announcer for games that were televised on Telemundo-Channel 48 from 1995-97. He also called the Oakland Raiders games from 1995 -1996 and 2002-2006.
Starting this 2013 football season, Jesus Zarate, a young and talented journalist will join veteran play-by-play announcer, Erwin Higueros, who will together bring all the 49ers excitement to the 49ers Faithful en español! Jesus Zarate is a bright sports journalist who graduated from San Francisco State University in 2011 with Summa Cum Laude honors. This 24-year-old is an expert in many sports. Jesus has a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts with an emphasis in Sports Journalism. Born in Mexico, Jesus came to the United States when he was 8 years old. His interest in sports begun when he was a child; he knows everything about Mexican soccer and soccer in general. Besides soccer, Jesus also has a lot of knowledge about football, basketball, and boxing. Jesus lives in Hayward, California and currently works for 860 AM ESPN Deportes Radio as a board operator during the San Francisco Giants games. Jesus also brings all his sports passion, knowledge and enthusiasm to the audience during “Mundo Deportivo,” 860 AM ESPN Deportes’ weekly show Monday through Saturday. During the 2012 football season, Jesus covered selected 49ers games providing color commentary.
